  • has a market value of $1,000 or more
  • has a data plate, including a serial number
  • is free of debt (i.e. unencumbered)
  • if more than six months old, is on our 'Buy Back accepted brands' list.

Frequently asked questions

How does SilverChef determine the valuation for used restaurant equipment?

The amounts we pay for used restaurant equipment under our Buy Back initiative (see table above) are based on the equipment’s:

  • original invoice price
  • age
  • current market value
  • make and model
  • condition.

What information must be included on the equipment supplier’s original invoice?

For us to accept the original invoice, it must include the:

  • supplier’s particulars (business name, business number)
  • model number and/or item description
  • serial number
  • cost.

Which bits of my equipment do I need to take photographs of?

To help us identify the equipment and assess its condition, please take pictures of the equipment’s:

  • data plate, showing make, model, serial number, and date of manufacture
  • accessible sides
  • accessories
  • interior. 

If the equipment is older than six months, we may also request a 20-second video demonstrating the equipment in operation.

Does SilverChef need to examine my equipment before purchasing it from me?

No — we do not conduct physical examinations of equipment. We’ll instead rely on the information, photos and, if necessary, the video you send us to decide whether your equipment qualifies for Buy Back.

Am I required to provide you with the equipment’s service records?

Depending on the age and condition of the equipment (as revealed in the photographs you’ve sent us), we may request its service records.

Can I upgrade the equipment SilverChef buys and rents back to me?

Yes — however, how soon you can upgrade the rental equipment is dependent on how old it was when we bought it from you, as follows:

  • Less than 6 months old: You can upgrade the equipment whenever you want to.
  • 6–24 months old: You can upgrade the equipment after renting it from us for a minimum of 6 months.
  • More than 24 months old: You can upgrade the equipment after renting it from us for a minimum of 12 months.

(The waiting periods are exceptions to the rule: If you Rent–Try–Buy new or ‘Certified Used’ commercial kitchen equipment through us, you can upgrade it — exchange it for something bigger or better, or completely different — whenever you want to.)
